Great sandwiches and totally bumpin' on the weekends! Love the atmosphere especially when busy and crowded. Garlic bread is bomb and burgers are good. Great place to stop before a flick at the fluer! Great bar tender service!!!

Was greeted immediately, friendly and welcoming. Menu is mostly appetizers and sandwiches, soup, and salad. I had the steak salad and it was quite nice. Serving size was perfect, not overly done. Stopped in because reviews said there were lots of TV's and being a Monday night, I wanted to watch the football game while eating dinner. It's a place where "locals" gather, so lots of friends meeting and chatting. Only 4 stars because menu was limited.
(4)Jayne M.
Great sandwiches, fries, burgers. Good atmosphere and place to get drinks without the huge crowd.
(5)Christopher F.
I've only been once but I hope Chris Biagini will invite me to go with him again! Great local "everybody knows your name" vibe. A good place to watch sports I'm guessing! Tasty food-try the Reuben!
(4)Indy J.
Good food, good service even at busy lunch time
(3)Dan R.
Stopped in for a Tuesday lunch. I had the mushroom/swiss burger, my wife had a crab cake sandwich (special of the day) - both about $9 and came with fries. The burger was great and the crab cake sandwich was really good. Our server was friendly and prompt. Great place, will be back sometime.

I have visited Francies a few times now since moving to DSM. Every time they are full but we always seem to find a table quickly. For being busy every time we have been there it seems like the wait staff keeps up pretty well. The beers were cold and tap prices seem to be pretty average. The food we had were burgers and fries. Both were good but not to die for. Still I will be back again because I enjoyed the sports bar atmosphere.
(3)Ryan S.
I have only been to Francies once but I was surprised at how nice it was inside. The menu was your typical sports bars' but everyone that ordered liked what they got. I went with the chicken philly and it was pretty solid. I will need to try the burger as Lindsay A. suggests. I blogged about my experience so feel free to check out my review and pictures below for this and many other Des Moines restaurants. fooddmawesome.blogspot.c…

Awesome food. I was thinking it would be more like a bar but its more sports bar/restaurant to me. Very clean and lost of TVs. Husband got French dip and I got mushroom and Swiss burger. Both were fantastic. All the waitresses were working hard and we didn't wait long at all. Would totally go back!
(4)Jeremy W.
If you are going out on the southside, this is pretty much the only real option. The pub food (burgers, reubens, etc) is fantastic, the place is clean and well-maintained, and the drinks pretty reasonably priced. A few TVs are around if you need to watch the game, but not an all out sports bar. Decent ambiance for a casual date. It's not a big place, so a group of more than four is going to have trouble sitting together. Not family friendly, and if kids are allowed (no idea), I wouldn't take any younger than 12.
(5)John H.
I stopped in when I was getting my car repaired across the street. I have to say, if you order a Moscow Mule and they ask if you have a vodka preference, SAY YES. I ended up with a Moscow Mule Made with Hawkeye Vodka (yuck.) Otherwise my food was good and the service was friendly. I had the pork tenderloin sandwich with fries. The sandwich was good, the fries were standard crinkle fries, but overall I had a positive experience.

I made my first visit to Francie's on Friday night - took Uber and my driver was excited I was going there - he told me they have a great Rueben sandwich among other things. I was attending a friend's birthday party - kind of a combo happy hour/dinner deal. The place is small and cozy - and quite popular it seems! I seriously considered ordering all but one thing on the menu so I told the amazing server to pick something - and she said the Rueben first so I just went with it. My friend said the Bloody Mary delicious and wow was she correct! Quite possibly one of the best I have ever had - it quickly earned an Instagram and Facebook post. The sandwich was juicy and full of flavor - due to it being piled high of meat and toppings, it was a tad messy but I didn't care one bit! The fries were fine - nothing amazing but decent enough. Next time, I will try the slaw. And yes, there will be a next time. I don't frequent the southside very often but this place is worth making the trip. A special shout out to Stephanie - our fantastic waitress! They were super busy and our group was quite a handful - easily 20 people eating and drinking - coming and going - ordering shots here and there. And, we weren't her only assignment. It seemed as though she juggled everything with ease and a smile on her face. I love first time experiences like this until I realize what I have been missing out on for so long!

After driving by this place EVERY SINGLE DAY and having the big green Francies sign in the face everyday taunting me saying "TRY ME TRY ME!" I finally found some time and went with my buddy to try this place out for lunch. Upon arrival you can immediately tell it is a bar spot. Seat yourself, TVs for the game, and limited amount of tables. The menu is very small and straightforward, we ordered the Toasted Garlic Foccacia to start, I had the Tuna melt sandwich, and my buddy had the Francie's Club. The Toasted Garlic Foccacia is like 4 pieces of garlic cheese pizza haha, it was very tasty! The tuna melt was excellent and Francie's club from what my friend said was very good as well! Fries came with the sandwiches, they were a bit too crispy in my opinion, but still pretty good. When we showed up for lunch, there were a few tables to choose from, 20 minutes later, there was a crowd of people waiting almost out the door for a table, THIS PLACE GETS BUSY QUICK! It's unfortunate there is hardly a waiting area for those waiting for a seat. They also appear to have good beer, but we did not partake in that aspect of this place, maybe next time.
(5)Britney L.
Really good burgers and sandwiches, they have crinkle fries which are my favorites, I will go back again!! By the way the nacho appetizer is HUGE and really good with the Italian grinder sausage on top :)
(4)Summer F.
Service was great, but it seemed to take forever to get our food. I believe it was near a 45 minute wait after order I tried the buffalo chicken Philly... Delcious! Portion sizes are hearty and their fries are to die for... will return outside of lunch and dinner rush!
(4)Jeniffer L.
My first time there, it was nice but the only thing is that the bar close early. Also God music and helpful staff
(3)Rob T.
Awesome find while I was staying near Des Moines airport. Super casual menu and staff. Great local brews on tap, clean and lots of TVs.
(5)Mallory L.
Awesome food. My favorite is the tuna melt! Great service and atmosphere. Best bar on the Southside.
(5)Zack L.
Very chill atmosphere with good food. We love this place!
(4)Johhny R.
The chicken phili was great! Got a Moscow mike to go with it. Overall very impressed. Took a little while for my food during the lunch rush but wasn't too bad. I'd recommend stopping here if you got done time to kill before hopping on a plane.
(4)Greg G.
Excellent food at this cozy little bar near the Des Moines airport. I ordered a burger and fries. The portion sizes are above average and the service was excellent. Ate here with my wife and 3 boys. No complaints from anyone.
(5)Heather V.
Very cool place. Great sports bar for sure and food was great! Drinks wets good too. Really enjoyed the ambiance for a sports bar. I'll be back when the Hawkeyes decide to win a game!
(5)Kendra O.
I have had a Philly Cheese Steak in Philly and the Philly at Francie's is better! The burgers are also amongst the best in town. Jeanne is the manager and she is the best ever. If you haven't been here you totally need to try it. Gina was our waitress and totally rocked out a huge party when she was new!
(1)Chris B.
Having to downgrade this place for one reason: they have no real vegetarian options. I recently decided to go the vegetarian route and that might keep me from being able to go here. They used to have a veggie sandwich but don't anymore. People like myself are now restricted to very simple salads and eating sides like fries and coleslaw. The last time I was there, one of their soups of the days was cheesey potato soup - I thought that was safe. Even that had meat in it; the only cheesey potato soup I've ever had that included meat. I still like the people and the atmosphere and know that they have good food for meat eaters. But it is their lack of menu items for non-omnivores that forces me to bump them down to three stars.
(3)Patrick T.
Cheap brews! Vintage sports prints and lots of Tv's to watch the game! On a whim we went out to Francies for the first time, for a post dinner brew. It was great! Super clean, family owned, and a fun atmosphere if your a sports fan. They have rad old sports prints, from Babe Ruth to Joe Namath. The beers were super cheap and we tried our first ever Moscow Mule which comes in a very cold copper cup and contains vodka and ginger babe! I dug it. After a few drinks we were getting snacky so we ordered some fries, and we were brought out a huge order of fries for 3.50 what a deal! I dug this place and left super happy!
(4)Suzan H.
Stopped by on a Sunday during the golf tournament. Ordered wings and a rarebit. The menu doesn't tell you the rarebit comes on toast but it does. A nice choice of cottage cheese for the side. Queso cheese is the bomb and makes anything better so I was thrilled with my order. The wings were in the smaller side but the sauce was good. If you are looking to have them as a meal I would recommend ordering anther app or a side to go along with it. Clean and friendly. Plenty of parking. Outdoor seating available. We will return!
(4)Andrew D.
Friendly staff. Bar food was great. A good amount of TVs. Very clean townie bar New to the area of town...I will be back!
(5)Brian B.
Love, Love, Love this place! I have never had anything bad! The waitresses are all awesome, prices are great & foods even better! I would recommend the Francies Club with fries or cottage cheese! Really depends on my mood if I get fries or cottage cheese! The welcome kids as well as I take my 7yr old daughter from time to time but no later then 7pm since this is a bar! I really love the look of this place as well since I live carpentry! The woodwork is inviting for me!!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY ME!!!!
(5)Jack K.
Best bar food in Des Moines! I have been coming here for years. Never a bad sandwich or drink. Pro tip: if you are a honey mustard fan, try a side with your fries. It is life changing! Only bad I can think of: I wish they were open on Sunday.
(5)Alisa R.
Great service, nice weekend special martinis. First time there, just had drinks can't wait yo have dome food.
(5)Jeff B.
Great casual/American food. Burgers, hot sandwiches and more. Nice atmosphere. Great place for a lunch. Service is quick and friendly. Also great for takeout. Can get very busy at times. Long time fan of this place!
(5)Sarah S.
Stopped after zoo brew around 8pm place was still busy. We were able to get a table Right away and our service was excellent. We just had beer but looked like they had a large selection of liquor and other drinks. There menu is limited as others have mentioned but to me that's not an issue since you know that. We had the Italian loose meat sandwich and a club- excellent. Wish they had more booth or low table seating!
(5)John D.
They have the essential liquor choices in a small comfortable atmosphere plus a few nice drink specials with some good bar food. I would recommend for anyone in the nearby hotels. My martini is good.
(5)Brent C.
I've been going to Francie's for over 20 years. It's the epitome of a sportsbar. Lots of TV's, flowing drinks, good times with friends, and good sandwiches and appetizers out of the kitchen. It's actually my ideal man cave. Lots of beautiful wood on the walls and sports on the televisions! Stop in and enjoy the good times!
(5)David R.
Probably the nicest "neighborhood" sports bar in at least South, if not all of Des Moines. Kinda hard to find if you don't know where it's at, and pretty small inside and generally busy, which can sometimes lead to slow service. Clean, good food, reasonable beer selection, and Moscow Mules in copper cups. They have a ton of TVs as well. Highly recommended if you're in that part of town!
(4)V S.
So far, the best burger and fries i have had in Des Moines. we walked in at 12:20, the place was busy, and we were served right away. the food was hot and fresh, and the fries are AWESOME! we had the swiss mushroom burger, and the traditional with pepper cheese. fresh veggies on the side, and the table and surrounding were extra clean. They have 11 tv's that i counted, and the noise level was not bad at all.
(5)Chris M.
Nice little place near the airport. Stopped in for lunch before my return flight to Chicago and had a better than decent lunch. Burger, fries, drink =under 10 bux. There were plenty of options and a full bar. Friendly and attentive service as well.

Francies is a good local watering hole with a pretty decent menu and a good place to catch a game on TV. They have some of the better buffalo wings in town although they are pricey for what you get. My only beef with Francies is that their menu is pretty limited. It's a good place to go if in the area but not a place to drive across town for.

This place was highly recommended by the staff at Elliott Aviation at the airport. I'm here to tell you that maybe you should consider driving a bit further up the road. I had the burger, and while it was okay, it didn't exactly leave me with the impression that I need to come back and get another the next time I'm in town.

I went to Francies with my girlfriend when I was moving back to Milwaukee from California and we stopped overnight in Des Moines. The ambiance was really great, had the midwest feel of warmth and friendliness. It was like a homecoming. The food was delicious and they had decent beer on tap.
(5)Lindsay A.
Francie's Sports Bar is another one of my local favs. They have the BEST burgers in Des Moines and the crinkle cut fries are really great as well. The only non-burger menu item I've tried was the chicken fingers, which were good but not extraordinary. I've heard raves about their nachos and other sandwiches, but I tend to stick with the All American Burger. The only downfall to Francie's is the service. It's very, very slow and the place gets crowded quickly at mealtimes. Plan to spend some time, though, and it'll be worth the wait!
